About Jessica Rooks

Jessica Rooks moved to Kirksville in 2002 to attend college at Truman State University. She graduated in 2005 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Political Science. While in college, she met her husband Aaron Rooks. Aaron and Jessica fell in love with the local community and decided to make it their home. In 2009, Jessica attended law school at the University of Missouri. Not wanting to leave Kirksville, she commuted the distance from Kirksville to Columbia while completing her law degree. In May 2012, Jessica graduated from law school and began work on opening her own practice. Not only was 2012 a busy year for the Rooks family professionally, but also personally. In June, they had their first child. A wonderful little boy named Dylan. The Rooks family attends church at Hazel Creek Free Will Baptist. Jessica Rooks is the Sunday School Secretary and activity director for her church family. Jessica and Aaron participate in a variety of activities with their church ranging from softball to vacation bible school.

Jessica Rooks was ranked in the top 15% of her graduating class from the University of Missouri School of Law.  She was a candidate for the Dean’s list for superior academic achievement every semester of her law school career. Jessica graduated with a certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution. Alternative Dispute Resolution trains individuals on alternative methods outside the court system to resolve problems. These various methods utilize tools such as mediation, arbitration, or negotiation to develop solutions that are specialized to the individual and their problem. During her third year of law school, Jessica was a research assistant.  In her position as a research assistant, she analyzed nationwide trust law to assist in creating legislation that amends the Missouri Uniform Trust Code on the role of trust protectors. She also assisted the Missouri Guardian drafting subcommittee in analyzing guardian terminology nationwide.

Not only did Jessica place an emphasis on academic achievement, but she made sure to give back to her community. Jessica became a Rule 17 certified mediator in Missouri and volunteered her services to the local Small Claims Court to help individuals resolve their conflicts without a court issued decision. She also volunteered at legal aid and assisted low-income clients through their divorce process. During the summer of 2010 and 2011 Jessica volunteered at the public defenders office helping represent clients with a variety of legal needs. Her experience included assisting on cases ranging from fraudulent check writing to child abuse and murder. Before attending law school, Jessica volunteered for four years with the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program. Through CASA, she worked on developing permanent homes for foster care children.
